In this video I will show you how I tried to build a wireless video system for a drone but instead only ended up with a low power/range WiFi jammer. That means we will explore analog composite video, frequency modulation (FM), voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs) and much much more. Lots of experiments included 😉 Let’s get started!

    If you wanted longer range I recommend goggles with external sma connectors and buying some better antennas. If you want more output power you can buy vtx for example from tbs

    You generally don't make RF Circuit in mid air due to impedance mismatch, powerloss, etc.

    Will there be a follow-up video how the talk with the Authorities (Bundesnetzagentur) was since you created a transmitter which jammed a broad range of frequencies? 😉

    Welcome to FPV!! Wait til you get some time on a digital HD system like DJI's air unit or caddx vista. I've been flying drones for nearly 8 years and there is nothing better right now . But some competitors are starting to get close

    Way back in the eighties when I was so much younger I gave up on antenna building because of the complicated calculations taking in count wavelength, antenna wire thickness, coax length, standing waves, etc. It made my head spin.

    Probably it's second nature when you only mention; ''an antenna wire" like everybody knows how it works.

    Lots of stuff I didn't get back then, now fall into place watching youtube video like yours. Maby when you explain those calculations needed for an antenna a bit, it can help (not only) me, fit these puzzle pieces together.

    Fun to see, I did not expect, in this time and century analoge video is still actively produced and used.

    Why don;t you just amplify the fm modulated signal? If I am not mistaken there are various 5-6 GHz amplifiers out there.

    The reason why you only got a sort of camera signal from any VCO you have tried was that analog terestrial TV signal has its video signal AM modulated and the audio FM modulated, the old analog satellite TV was FM FM (FM video, FM audio) the reason why the image was sort of there was because you most likely used slope detection without even knowing it, FM slope detection uses AM demodulator tuned to the edge of the FM signal to demodulate it, it works ok-ish for audio but since a composite video signal is so wide in bandwidth, it has no chance. So the key word is AM modulated video signal. And as someone already said, the 7 marking on the TV was most likely just a marking for the dial scale, since you had your TV set to VHF low band, you were tuning somewhere between 54 and 88Mhz.

    The exact moment you showed that waveform, I'm like… hehe, that's composite video!

    (Proud wave form recognition moment).

    So that 5.8ghz chip can extend its range with a circular polarizing cloverleaf antenna and inverse polerized matched receiver antenna.

    You really need a spectrum analyzer for this sort of work. A high frequency scope even might work using the FFT function. Needs to sample at least double the frequency though which makes it an expensive scope. They used to make scopes tailored for video back in the day as well that you might find on eBay for pretty cheap now. Not much call for that sort of scope nowadays.

    Since weight is an important design consideration for drones, DIY is not an option anyway. You can increase the range by going for a more powerful transmitter. If you can't adjust output power, odds are you're flying 25mW. There are more powerful options. However, your local laws and regulations apply also. So inform yourself before breaking the law, especially if you're gonna post it on YouTube.

    Maybe be best to use a Broadband High Frequency RF Amplifier Module from ebay, very cheap and ready to use, 50M-6000Mhz

    its possible to amplify signal without opening none of the devices anyway 😉 but from buzzing its seems like its missing clock signal as you can see pictires seems cascaded. Either frequency mismatch or too slow to pick interrupt/clock signal which happens when you tune old tvs partially on upper or lower frequency. I thing anyone who used manual tuning televisions can see it 😉

    TV is VHF (54MHz to 216MHz) and UHF (470MHz to 806MHz). 7MHz is HF. the 7 on the TV is just a tuning Scale

    Should have mentioned that messing around with RF transmitters like this can get you in trouble. Should get at least amateur radio license before you start messing around with transmission. Even using radios that are not meant to be used in your country/region can be harmful, it is very tightly regulated. The knowledge required to get a amateur radio license would go a long way in helping what went wrong here.

    Should it really be FM? As I remember from the 80s, video brightness signal is AM, audio is FM on some other near-by frequency, and color is quite another story.

    Американский историк и геостратег Эдвард Люттвак (Edward Luttwak) рассказал, как оказался под запретом на Украине, он поделился историей в своей статье для Tablet Magazine.
